Overview

TLDR fdssdfsdfsdfsdfdsfsdfdfs

The Pointman, Paceman, Compassman and Forward Observer are fairly standard roles among the delegated population.

Tip

Your are Supposed to assign 1 person for each task… Orrr you could just have 1 person do it all.

Pointman

He is at the front of the formation. He scans for enemy activity, looks out for mines, and leads the platoon through the best route to the objective.

Tasks for the pointman include:

  • Scans for enemy activity, obstacles, and signs of ambush.
  • Detects potential hazards (mines, tripwires, IED indicators).
  • Selects the optimal route based on terrain, cover, and concealment.
  • Maintains visual contact with the PL and signals halts or dangers.
  • Employs immediate action drills if contact is made.
  • Route planning during planing phase

Paceman

He keeps pacecount and tracks distance to the objective

Tasks for the paceman include:

  • Maintains an accurate pace count (typically adjusted for individual pace count: 62–65 paces per 100 meters on flat terrain).
  • Accounts for terrain variations (uphill/downhill, vegetation) that affect pace.
  • Reports distance milestones to the PL or Compassman.
  • Assists in correlating pace with map features for position verification.

Compassman

This guy maintains the compass, and ensures the platoon is headed in the right direction. He follows the compass azimuth to stay on course

Tasks for the compassman include:

  • Shoots and follows designated azimuths provided by the PL.
  • Adjusts for magnetic declination (G-M angle) using the map diagram.
  • Verifies direction during halts and at checkpoints.
  • Assists in deliberate navigation (e.g., resection, intersection for location fixes).
  • Coordinates with the Paceman to confirm position on the map.

Forward Observer

Jobs for the PL. He locates targets, calls for fire, and adjusts.

Tasks for the FO include:

  • Identifies and locates targets using grid coordinates or polar plotting.
  • Calls for and adjusts indirect fires (mortars, artillery) using proper call for fire format.
  • Advises the PL on fire support availability, effects, and risks.
  • Maintains the target list and fire support overlay.
  • Monitors for fire support assets during movement and execution.

Seems simple enough right?
